Question 5

Question 5  How did  the events of September 11, 2001 change your view of the world?

=================================================================

Yes, in a strange way it gave me hope. The way I saw people responded to the challenges that needed to be faced. I was impressed with city leaders, who urged residents on TV and Radio to not let their anger out on their neighbors who were from the middle east and reminding NYC residents to realize we are all Americans. I saw resilience and caring in such a difficult time. I watched everyday people step up and confront people who wanted to quickly find scapegoats.
I like many people thought we were untouchable. But we can be touched sadly.
It made me feel less secure. Post-9/11, we received terrorism "threat" updates like weather reports. It made me feel like we were in constant danger. Today, I think the events of 9/11 have shaped how I evaluate history. I try to do research to understand why events like these happen.
as a Marine and firefighter- it brought Americans together and gave me a deeper will to rid the world of all those who oppose freedom and liberty who want to do us harm
It made me realize that I was no longer as safe as I always thought I was. It made me realize that there are people out there who do things for pure evil.
I wouldn't say that I had established a view of the world at the age of 11, so it would be hard for me to answer that question.
Fear about our safety! We were much more vulnerable than we all thought!
I hope and pray that nothing like this ever happens again in any part of our world.
The events of 9/11 didn't change my view of the world as it happened. I was 11, I felt sad, I moved on. However, as I have grown and explored the conflict and the historical circumstances surrounding it, I now have a new view of the world. The unity and force that we showed following this tragedy made me proud of my fellow Americans. Hand in hand with this pride, is also shame. We let fear control our actions and as a result our country has taken a scary turn. The fear has never left us and we see it creep out everyday.
It made me realize how much hate and misunderstanding people have of each other. It makes me question humans right to this planet.
The events heightened my awareness of how our country is connected to the larger world - that we don't exist in a vacuum. It made me realize that people and cultures are more alike than different when we are willing to connect with others one on one. I am optimistic that we can recover from tragedy if we have a national will to do so. It gives me hope that our nation will come out of the current malaise and return to a more aspirational conscience.
More conscious of foreigners and their impact--for good or bad--on our country
I lived of fear. I was afraid to see my husband traveling for work. I lost a lot of trust in people after that day. Everyone was a suspect. I wondered when the next tragedy was going to strike.
